A More Active and Successful East London

Physical Activity

Physical Activity

A key role for Pro-Active East London is to narrow the gaps between health inequalities and the take-up of physical activity, and between high level strategic policy and programme delivery on the ground. Our aim is to promote the physical activity agenda equally alongside that of sport, with a focus on advocacy at the highest level and practical support at the implementation level.

We want, for example, to broaden the local authority approach to sport and physical activity, where currently officer time and financial resources are focused mainly on pure sports development and leisure centre outputs. Links with Primary Care Trusts also need to be expanded, particularly on the basis of physical activity’s ability to prevent as well as treat and stabilise certain illnesses. In this context, Pro-Active East London will work to maximise the impact of and resources for a range of healthy living initiatives, such as smoking cessation, healthy eating, workplace health and exercise referral schemes. We will also assist groups and partnerships in lobbying the NHS to commission work around the impact of physical activity, especially for those suffering deprivation and health inequalities.

This page will be regularly updated with regional and national information.
